It’s been awhile since I shared a post about our honeymoon! In case you’re new to the blog, Dave and I got married in May and spent two weeks traveling around Ireland! We were about to spend time in several different cities. I’ve already shared our adventures in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Blarney!
The fourth stop on our honeymoon was Killarney, Ireland. This was definitely our favorite city we spent time in! Luckily we ended up getting there a day earlier than originally planned and were able to spend several days there. As soon as we pulled into the city, I knew we were going to love it there. There was a motorcycle event going on, so the place was packed. But that didn’t take away any of the charm!
Killarney and the surrounding area is filled with Bed and Breakfasts, restaurants, and shops. The national park and the landscape surrounding the town are even better!
While Dave and I were there, we signed up for a bus tour around the Ring of Kerry. It was nearly 7 hours long with stops in towns along the way, but it was one of the things on the trip I was most excited for! It started off wonderfully. The sky was clear so the sights were beautiful. The weather was perfect. As the day went on, it got a little rougher. It got increasingly foggy, so we couldn’t see much by mid-day. I also discovered that I get car sick on buses, so that put a bit of a damper on the day. We were still able to see some awesome things though!
The day after the bus tour we had my absolute favorite day of the trip! Before we left for the honeymoon, we had signed up for a three-hour horse ride outside of Killarney. I was nervous because I hadn’t ridden a horse in years, and my last horse experience included being bucked off! The experience I did have riding a horse definitely didn’t last three hours!
Honestly, though, it was the most amazing experience! We rode through the National Park, so the view literally could not have been better. The horses were great and knew the trail well, so I wasn’t required to learn much. We had a couple of guides with us to give us any direction we needed.
My nerves were gone by the end and I couldn’t believe how quickly three hours went! I definitely think Dave and I will try to find somewhere near home to go riding.
Overall, I loved Killarney! Because we had several days there, we were able to take a couple days to totally relax, which we definitely needed by this point in the trip. The B&B we stayed in was amazing and just a short walk from town.
